Atypical Voyage — Support
Atypical Voyage is a travel app that refuses to send you where everyone else is going. Name somewhere obvious and it stamps your choice DECLINED, then finds you somewhere with the same soul and a fraction of the crowd.
It’s made by one person in Portugal. If something is broken, or wrong, or you just want to argue with a verdict, the address below reaches me directly.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is it free?
Yes, all of it. Every destination dossier, the matching engine, the weirdness dial, the soul profile, the crowd calendar, Judge My Trip, Beacon. There is no trial, no countdown, and no crippled version. Nothing is held back.
There is no account and no login. Nothing is required to use the app.
The app said my trip was predictable. I disagree.
Good. That’s the point of it. Judge My Trip scores three things — how crowded your destinations are, how many of them are places the app actively refuses, and how similar they are to each other. It’s an opinion, not a verdict from on high. Turn the weirdness dial up and argue back.
Why won’t it recommend [somewhere famous]?
Because everyone already goes there. The app keeps a list of destinations it refuses on principle — the ones that turn up in every listicle — and it will always offer you an alternative instead. You can still read about the refused place; it just won’t be recommended.
What is Beacon?
A way to let people back home know where you got to. You start a voyage, send them a link, and each time you tap “Drop a beacon” the app records your location at that moment and adds it to a page only people with the link can see.
It reads your location only in the moment you tap the button, while the app is open. There is no background tracking and no location history built from your movements. The app requests foreground location permission only.
You can end a voyage (the page stays visible, marked ended) or revoke it (the link stops working and all location history for that voyage is deleted from the server immediately). Voyages expire automatically after 60 days.
Beacon is not a safety or emergency service. It does not contact emergency services and must never be relied on as a substitute for telling someone your plans. A gap between beacons means nobody pressed a button — usually no signal, or nothing to report. It does not mean anything is wrong.
Why does it want my email?
It doesn’t, unless you offer it. There are three optional places: saving your soul profile so it survives a lost phone, asking to be told when a place we don’t yet cover gets charted, and leaving a reply address on a correction.
All three are optional and nothing is withheld if you skip them. I send occasional dispatches about the project and nothing else. No lists are sold, no advertisers are involved.
Some places have a warning before the dossier.
A few do. Antakya is rebuilding after the 2023 earthquakes and the region has said it wants visitors and the economy they bring — so the app still sends people there, and says plainly what they’re walking into. Kashgar carries a note about the situation in Xinjiang.
These are there so you can make your own decision with the facts in front of you, rather than finding out on arrival.
A destination page has something wrong in it.
Very possibly. Almost every dossier in the app is labelled “field notes — researched, not yet walked.” That’s honest: the writing is researched carefully, but most of these places I have not personally been to.
Every dossier has a Set us straight button at the bottom. If you’ve been somewhere and a ferry no longer runs, a museum has closed, or a season is wrong, tell me there. I read every one, and corrections are how the content gets better. Reports go privately to me — they are not published in the app and other users never see them.
Does it work offline?
Mostly, yes. The destination data and all the dossiers are stored in the app itself, so searching, matching and reading work without a connection. Beacon check-ins made offline are queued and sent when you have signal again.
How do I delete my data?
Email atypicalvagabond@gotobluetegu.com and ask. I’ll delete everything associated with you within 30 days.
Because there are no accounts, please include the email address you gave the app, and — if it concerns Beacon — the voyage link. If you’ve given neither, there may be nothing on file that can be connected to you, which is by design.
Deleting the app removes everything stored on your device: saved places, routes, and the anonymous identifier used for basic usage counts.
Something has crashed or is behaving strangely.
Email me with your device model and iOS version, and what you were doing when it happened. A screenshot helps enormously.
