I appreciate you dropping into Atypical Vagabond. So you might ask yourself what an “Atypical Vagabond is.” A vagabond is a person who wanders from place to place without a home or job. So you obviously have a home and employment, right? Living the digital nomadic lifestyle takes me from location to location. Remote work allows me to work anywhere there is an internet connection. So this would make me atypical, irregular, or unusual hence why I am the Atypical Vagabond.
If Atypical Vagabond is a mouthful to say, then feel free to call me Carter. Since you made it this far, you might want to know what got me into the digital nomad lifestyle.
My Life of Travel: The Beginning
My adventurous lifestyle has gifted me with a beautiful tapestry of experiences that stretches across continents, turning my life into a perpetual journey of discovery and wonder. I have an insatiable love for exploration, and my spirit knows no boundaries as I’ve navigated through eleven countries, each offering its own blend of captivating cultures, landscapes, and stories. Living in different places has opened my eyes to the intricacies of local life, allowing me to appreciate the unique nuances that make each community special.
Learning Spanish in Loja, Ecuador, was more than just a language lesson; it became a profound desire to connect with people and bridge the gap through meaningful communication. My travels have taken me to some of the most breathtaking beaches, towering mountains, and lush rainforests, leaving an indelible mark on my soul with the majesty of nature’s creations.
As a devoted beach enthusiast, I’ve embarked on a pilgrimage to find the perfect stretch of sand and the rhythmic crash of waves that speak to my heart. From the turquoise waters of Anguilla to the charming vibes of Saint Kitts and Nevis, the captivating beauty of Antigua, the chic allure of Saint Barts, and the eco-paradise of Costa Rica, each beach revealed a new chapter in my love affair with coastal wonders.
Embracing the freedom of remote freelancing has allowed me to savor the journey as much as the destinations themselves. The unpredictability and thrill of the road have become my constant companions, providing a sense of liberation and fulfillment that few can fathom.

How Did My Digital Nomad Lifestyle Begin?
Exactly one week into my captivating journey through Jordan, my life took an unexpected turn as I became utterly devoted to world travel. The idea of returning home suddenly seemed like a distant memory, as my heart yearned to explore more, learn endlessly, and forge connections with people from all corners of the globe. Fuelled by this newfound passion, I delved into thorough research on the digital nomad lifestyle, recognizing that letting go of the conventional path was the hardest yet most rewarding decision.
This isn’t the easiest of lifestyles, and solutions do not happen at the drop of a dime. But with patience, some hard work, and community building, the answers come to fruition. I’m still constantly traveling the world. Today I don’t have a home base, and I live out of my suitcase. Many times it is my passion for adventure that gets me through the rough times of travel. These aspects of the voyage are what keeps me going after all these years.
