  • The Italy Freelancer Visa. You can apply for this visa if you want to be self-employed, do freelance work and not work for a company.
  • The Italy Entrepreneur Visa. You can apply for this visa if you want to implement an investment plan (of no less than €500,000) that benefits the Italian economy.

Italian law will dictate whether you must return to your home country. If so you may need to return back to the U.S. to apply for the digital nomad and remote working visa categories. Other visas might be better for you to start your process and get you living in Italy. 

If you have a valid passport, you could also see if you can find employment with an Italian company. If you can land a remote job with a company here, you can enjoy the roman forum, coffee shops, and free wifi. You may even spend a significant amount of time exploring Italian culture.
