Rest Day in LeónGathering myself for the last third
By Day 33 I had stopped apologizing for rest days. León gave me the space to recover, eat well, look west, and get ready for the mountains.
A rest day was no longer time off the Camino.
By this point I knew exactly what a rest day bought me: another week of walking without falling apart.
León was a generous place to be still — lively enough to enjoy, compact enough not to turn recovery into another forced march.
The road ahead would climb again.
The mountains were coming back, and I wanted to meet them fresh.

The Barrio Húmedo Does Its Job
The old quarter is built for wandering from one small plate to another.
I’m a non-drinker, so for me the appeal was the food, the social rhythm, and letting each stop decide what came next.
Sage and I made a slow evening of it without needing the wine culture to be the point.
The Mountains Want Me Back
The road ahead climbs into the Montes de León, toward Cruz de Ferro and then down into the Bierzo.
I had been carrying a stone for one specific purpose, and the cross was getting close.
A rest day gave me time to think about what that meant before the climb made it real.
Doing Nothing on Purpose
I wandered without the pack. Sat in plazas. Watched the light shift on the cathedral.
The body filled back up.
Tomorrow, west and up.

Atypical Last Thoughts
Zero official Camino kilometers, plenty of food, and one stone in the pack with an appointment in the mountains.
Buen Camino.
