Step back in time and immerse yourself in the splendor of the medieval era at the much-awaited 2023 edition of the Medieval Fair of Coimbra. With a motto centered around the dynastic crisis of 1383/85, the historic Cortes of Coimbra, and the revered acclamation of D. João, Mestre de Avis, as King of Portugal, this extraordinary event promises a memorable experience. Taking place from July 21 to 23, this enchanting fair is organized by the municipality of Coimbra in collaboration with esteemed partners such as the Diocese of Coimbra, the Agency for the Promotion of the Lower Municipality of Coimbra (APBC), and the Social Action Services of the University of Coimbra (SASUC). The Junta de Freguesia dos Olivais and the INATEL Foundation also provide their esteemed support to make this a grand success.

At 7:00 p.m., the Almanach Company warmly welcomes visitors with mesmerizing stagings and troves that recount the momentous acclamation of D. João, the Master of Avis, who rose to become the Defender and Ruler of the Kingdom, ultimately being crowned as King of Portugal during the Cortes of Coimbra. As the night progresses, the historic cloister of the Old Cathedral hosts the much-anticipated Royal Banquet at 8:00 p.m. Indulge in an authentic Medieval Supper, impeccably prepared and served by SASUC, under the expert guidance of Mauro Rodrigues.

On Sunday, July 23, the festivities resume at 9:00 a.m. with a delightful stroll through the Burgo, followed by the Auto de Abertura do Mercado. At 11:00 a.m., be captivated by the grand gun tournament and the men in arms displaying their impressive training. Witness a mesmerizing demonstration of falconry training at noon, and indulge in delectable food and refreshing drinks at 1:00 p.m.
