Camino Portuguese Day 9: A Day to Heal
On Day 9, I decided to take a break from the trail. My body had been through quite a bit, and the relentless pace had taken a toll, particularly on my feet. Blisters had formed, and I knew it was essential to address them adequately. Therefore, to ensure a safe and comfortable continuation of our journey, I took a day to recover.
However, this decision was not an easy one for someone eager to keep walking. My muscles were aching, so I recognized the importance of taking a day to rest and recuperate.
During my day of rest, I tended to my blisters, applied soothing ointments, and allowed my feet to recover. It was also an opportunity to restock supplies, catch up on journaling, and relax in the peaceful surroundings of Portela. This brief hiatus was a reminder that self-care is an integral part of the Camino experience. It’s not just about covering distances but also about being attuned to your body’s needs.
Camino Portuguese Day 10: A Return to the Path
With my blisters on the mend and a renewed sense of determination, Day 10 marked our return to the Camino Portuguese trail. The landscape unfolded before us, offering lush greenery, rolling hills, and the promise of more enchanting Galician beauty. The decision to take a day for self-care had made all the difference. I felt rejuvenated, ready to continue our pilgrimage.
The Healing Power of Nature
As we journeyed through Galicia’s tranquil countryside, it became evident that the Camino is a form of therapy. Nature’s soothing embrace, the gentle rustling of leaves, the fragrance of wildflowers, and the babbling streams all played a crucial role in easing the mind and nourishing the spirit.
Caldas de Reis: A Place of Renewal
Our destination, Caldas de Reis, offered the perfect setting for physical and spiritual renewal. This town is renowned for its thermal springs and healing waters. After a day of contemplation and rejuvenation, there was nothing more inviting than a visit to these thermal springs, where pilgrims can ease their aches, soak in the refreshing waters, and find a sense of renewal.
Atypical Last Thoughts
Day 10 of the Camino Portuguese was a reminder of the importance of self-care on this challenging but rewarding journey. Taking a day to heal and recharge allowed me to continue with newfound energy and a deeper appreciation for the beauty of Galicia. The Camino teaches us that self-care isn’t a sign of weakness but a vital aspect of resilience and endurance.
Stay tuned for the next chapter of our Camino adventure. As we continue our pilgrimage through the stunning landscapes of the Camino Portuguese, remember to take care of yourselves. Buen Camino!
