Obstacles Digital Nomads Face

As a remote worker, there are some challenges you may face. Consider some obstacles if you are looking for the best digital nomad job. This is not to say you will meet all these issues, but you must find solutions to some of these simple problems.

Foreign Transaction Fees

A local bank account is an excellent way to limit foreign transaction fees. There are special digital nomad visas available in some countries. As a part of the visa process, you are required to open up a local bank account.

Virtual Private Network or VPN

If you work remotely, you are going to need a VPN. A VPN will allow you to network into a local proxy server. Therefore, you will not look like someone is hacking into the business’s servers. Also, some banking systems block foreign IP addresses. A VPN also provides a way to encrypt your online activity, thus giving you an added layer of protection.

Time Zone Differences

You must be available to your team during regular working hours if you work online. Traveling from country to country as a digital nomad can take a few weeks to gain a regular work routine.

Travel Insurance

You never know when a disaster may strike. Therefore, you will want to ensure you have travel insurance. Most digital nomads have travel insurance in case they get sick or to protect their online business.

Natural Disasters

Many countries today are having issues with climate change. Therefore, you might experience hurricanes or tsunamis along the coast. As the effects of climate change increase, we are more likely to experience a natural disaster, especially if we are unfamiliar with the particular climates. As you are considering a new home, think about how climate change will impact the area.

How many digital nomads are in the area?

Other digital nomads may need more of a presence in the area. Networking with others in a similar field is a great way to learn the ins and outs of the best places to work. If a significant digital nomad community exists, there may be more co-workspaces. If one does not meet your needs, you will likely find another when many digital nomads are nearby.
