Hey there, fellow vagabonds. Are you interested in the Top 10 Things to do in Lisbon? Are you also tired of travel blogs that paint everything with sunshine and rainbows? Yeah, me too. This channel is for the real deal: the honest adventures, unexpected detours, and budgeting hacks that work.

Lisbon, oh Lisbon! Cobblestone streets lead to bustling markets in the city where the past meets the present, and every corner holds a new surprise. As a seasoned traveler and avid explorer, I’ve enjoyed uncovering the top 10 things that make Lisbon a destination. So buckle up, dear readers, as we embark on a whirlwind journey through the vibrant streets of Portugal’s capital city. Cobblestone streets lead to bustling markets. Which leads us to the top 10 things to see and do in Lisbon.

Top 10 Things to Do in Lisbon

This city is old-school fabulous, has food to die for, and enough hills to make your legs scream. But don’t worry, adventurers, because I’ve got the ultimate Lisbon Top 10 to make your Portuguese trip epic!

Ride a Tram through Lisbon

The tram lurched to a stop, throwing me against the worn leather seat. Laughter bubbled up from my throat – that’s Lisbon for you, equal parts charming and chaotic. Sun glinted off the yellow paint, momentarily blinding me before revealing a postcard-perfect scene: terracotta rooftops cascading down a steep hill, the blue Tagus River sparkling in the distance.

Ride the Crazy Tram: Imagine San Francisco’s cable cars, but way steeper. Just hang tight and hope you don’t get tangled in someone’s laundry!

I hopped off, wobbly knees protesting the sudden descent. This city is all about the climb. One minute, you’re strolling along a flat cobblestone street. The next, you’re gasping for air, clinging to a wrought-iron railing for dear life. But the payoff? Breathtaking.

Get Lost in Alfama

Earlier, I got lost in Alfama, the oldest district. Laundry hung from lines strung across narrow alleys, the scent of roasting peppers tickling my nose. A plump cat sprawled on a doorstep, regarding me with disdain as I fumbled with my map (who needs Google Maps when you have a feline overlord as your guide, right?).

Get Lost in Alfama (With Tasty Treats): Alfama is Lisbon’s confusing heart, full of hidden gems and enough turns to make you dizzy. At least you’ll be lost with a Pastel de Nata, the most delicious custard tart ever.

Sao Jorge Castle

The castle walls offer panoramic vistas of Lisbon that would make any king envious. Take a moment to soak it all in, from the terracotta rooftops of Alfama to the sparkling Tagus River.

Rock São Jorge Castle: Pretend you’re a knight and explore this remarkable fortress. Don’t get lost in the maze-like alleyways unless you want to become king…of accidental naps. (Show dramatic shots of the castle, then cut to a tourist napping on a bench)

Lisbon’s Se (Cathedral)

Lisbon Se: Lisbon’s Sé Cathedral is like a trip through time, all rolled into one fantastic building! This mighty church isn’t just a pretty face (well, it is cute!); it’s tough as nails, too. Imagine thick walls and lookout points – like a real-life castle!

But don’t worry—no dragons guard the door. Inside, it’s a whole different story. Beautiful stained-glass windows cast colorful light, fantastic carvings tell stories on the walls, and there’s enough gold to make your eyes pop.

Explore Lisbon’s Bairo Alto

Bairo Alto NightLife

Bairro Alto Nightlife: Party Time!: Lisbon’s nightlife is legendary. Hit up Bairro Alto for cool bars, live music, and enough sangria to make you forget your flight home.

Experience Fado

Eventually, I stumbled upon a tiny restaurant tucked away in a corner. Fado music filled the air, the singer’s voice weaving a tale of love and loss that sent shivers down my spine. The food, simple yet bursting with flavor, fueled me for the rest of the afternoon.

Hear Fado: Lisbon’s Sad Songs: Immerse yourself in sad Portuguese music. It is guaranteed to make you think about life—or how much you miss your pet. Tissues not included.

LX Factory

LX Factory: Hipster Heaven: This old factory area is now a haven for trendy shops, cafes, and art galleries. Perfect for picking up unique souvenirs or that funny mustache you’ve always wanted. (Show trendy shops and restaurants at LX Factory)

Visit Lisbon’s Belem District

Today’s adventure took me to Belém. Pastéis de Belém, the legendary bakery, was a must. The line snaked around the block, but the anticipation only heightened the experience. That first bite? Pure heaven. The buttery, flaky crust gave way to a warm, creamy custard that had me weak in the knees (metaphorically, of course, considering the climb back up the hill).

Belém Tower

Chill by the River at Belém Tower: This incredible building is a giant stone hello to the ocean. Take a selfie with it, then hit the nearby beach to relax. Ocean breeze not included. Gotta bring your own.

Jerónimos Monastery

Jerónimos Monastery: Stunning or Stumping?: This fantastic building is a must-see. But seriously, that name is a tongue twister. Maybe practice saying it a few times before you go…or just point and smile.

The Jerónimos Monastery wasn’t built solely for religious purposes. It also served as a monument to Portugal’s Golden Age of Exploration. Look closely at the intricate carvings throughout the monastery. You’ll see nautical motifs, exotic plants, and animals brought back from voyages, and even symbols referencing famous explorers like Vasco da Gama. It’s a fascinating way to learn about Portugal’s rich history of discovery without needing a history book!

My legs may be aching, and I may have gotten hopelessly lost a few times (okay, maybe more than a few), but Lisbon has me under its spell. And as I sit here, overlooking the city bathed in the golden glow of sunset, I know this is just the beginning of my love affair with this captivating city.

National Tile Museum

National Tile Museum: Portugal loves these beautiful tiles, and this museum is their hall of fame. Prepare to be amazed by incredible designs that make your bathroom look boring.
