Day 11: Caldas de Reis to Padron
Our journey on Camino Portuguese Day 11 continued as we departed from the rejuvenating waters of Caldas de Reis. The lush Galician countryside was our backdrop, offering serene walks through forests and the beautiful Ulla River.
As we walked, we encountered fellow pilgrims from around the world, each with their unique stories and motivations. The Camino has a magical way of fostering connections, and Day 11 was no exception. We shared laughter, stories, and a deep camaraderie as we made our way to Padron.
Day 12: Padron to Santiago de Compostela
Day 12 marked a significant milestone as we approached Santiago de Compostela, the culmination of our pilgrimage. The anticipation was palpable as we covered the final kilometers. The walk was both a physical challenge and a profound emotional journey.
As we drew closer to Santiago, the city’s grandeur became visible in the distance. The Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, a symbol of our goal, stood as a beacon. It was a moment of mixed emotions, a blend of exhaustion, exhilaration, and a profound sense of accomplishment.
Arrival in Santiago
Our arrival in Santiago de Compostela was met with a flood of emotions. The city’s charming streets, filled with history and tradition, welcomed us. We explored the historic Old Town, immersed in its medieval atmosphere and vibrant energy.
One of the most moving experiences was attending the Pilgrim’s Mass at the Cathedral. This spiritual moment brought us together with fellow pilgrims to give thanks for our journey, offer gratitude, and share in the powerful energy of the cathedral.
Atypical Last Thoughts
While our Camino Portuguese day 11 and 12 journey had officially ended, for many, it marked the beginning of a new chapter. Santiago de Compostela often becomes a place of reflection, a space to ponder the lessons learned and an inspiration for future adventures.
The Camino Portuguese is not just a physical trek. It’s a profound exploration of the self, a testament to the resilience of the human spirit, and a celebration of the connections we form along the way.
